Tabletop Lectern
FAding BeautyI used three timbers for contrast: african padauk, ash and a small piece of Macassar ebony for the 'fiddle' (the ledge that supports books and papers). I no longer use padauk since I have learnt that the colour fades, under the influence of ultra violet light, to a rather sad brown!

Signature JointI actually got the design sorted first and then realised that dovetails were the obvious joint to use. That's how it should be - contriving a design just to include a favourite joint is not usually a good idea - but I certainly wasn't displeased to be able to include it!

Flat PlatformThe flat ledge on the top is for the placing of the cup and chalice used in Communion services in good view of the congregation. It could equally well be used at other times for books etc. As the top is jointed up from several 4" (100mm) wide boards, that aspect of it presented some interesting challenges.
