Music Stand
The deskThe framework and slats for the desk were reclaimed from the reduced section of the column. The construction is mortice and tenon, and the timber is just 10mm thick
|
The sliding SystemThe desk is mounted on a bracket, the rear edge of which is shaped to fit snugly over the profile of the octagonal column. The wooden thumbscrew was turned on a drill-powered lathe and then threaded with a screwbox.
A benefit of the column being octagonal rather than round is that the bracket pulls firmly into contact with the sides and seats firmly. |
The baseThe base features a raised central field surrounded by diamond faceting. The field was worked with a plough plane and the chamfers with a bench rebate plane used freehand. Both operations required great care to take account of the grain direction, changing as it did from one facet to another.
