I don't only make small things - but I do tend to prefer them simply because my workshop's small. This set of four cabinets, at 1300mm long, occupied pretty well the entire standing area of my 'shop and turning it over to work on the back was a nightmare - with a box, I just pick it up and flip it this way or that - much more relaxing!
The cabinet doors were frame-and-panel constructions using hand-cut raised and fielded panels

Mahogany Music StandBased on a pair of antique stands in my childhood home, this was the last serious piece I made before the long lay-off from woodworking. Because I (a) didn't have a lathe and (b) couldn't turn anyway, I made the column and base octagonal. The desk slides up and down to the desired height and locks to the column using a wooden thumbscrew - and thereby hangs another tale . . .

Tabletop LecternThis was made for a local church, and the brief was to design something light and portable but at the same time aesthetically pleasing and appropriate for use in an act of worship.

Craft TableI designed and made this for a friend who does a lot of paper-crafting and other craftwork. She can sit on her settee, roll the table up close and pull the cutting leaf over her knees with the storage drawers accessible to the side. The timber is Southern Yellow Pine.

Built In Pedestal Desk |
Tool Cabinet |
This is my wife's desk, built into an alcove in our lounge. The door and drawer fronts all feature hand-cut raised and fielded panels, and all but the centre drawer are of frame and panel construction. The two left-hand drawers take suspension files while the cupboard on the right has roll-out shelves, mounted on drawer runners, for stationery.
I'll be sorting out more images soon and then the button below will become active to enable them to be viewed. |
Needing somewhere to store my tools properly, I came up with this design. It's made in ash and includes some novel features. I decided to make it not only functional but decorative and put my collection of fine planes on display (as well as making them readily accessible and identifiable). I also designed in some other features while I was at it.
